MADE-TO-MEASURE TAILORING
Made-to-Measure (MTM) is a tailoring service that uses existing patterns to tailor an item of clothing for clients. In our case, we have fitting garments in three sizing systems and two fits. We find the best size and fit for the client from the fitting garments in our store. The client tells us what adjustments they want made if any. They can see before the garment is made how the final garment will fit. This process is highly accurate and time saving for our clients as well over 95% only have to come to our store twice. There are two key reasons.
First of all our sizing systems are highly accurate. Client's usually only need a minor adjustment. The main adjustment is for height. This involves adjusting the length of the shirt, usually if the shirt is worn untucked. A long way behind this is adjusting for sleeve length. Now that we have our very tall sizing system the number of adjustments needed is considerably reduced. Bespoke tailoring has almost been eliminated.
The second reason is because FIT, the extra amount of fabric beyond your body measurement is very difficult to determine unless you are wearing a fitting garment. Traditional BESPOKE tailoring usually requires more fittings.
Other reasons include:
•Unlike most tailors we are not a store front taking measurements and then outsourcing the work to different workshops and factories. To maximise their profit they produce quickly and this is fertile ground for the development of sweatshops. All our garments are made in our fair trade workshop.
•Every garment is made to a pattern. This ensures very high accuracy.
•We use the ARTISAN production system which is the gold standard in making handmade clothing. Originally this is what luxury used to be. Now it has more to do with prestige as most luxury clothing is mass produced.
•There are no incentives for productivity in our workshop. Our staff is given the time to produce the highest quality possible.
•Our store and workshop have always been in the same building. The patternmaker or one of our tailors can quickly come to the store to help clients with fittings and in taking accurate measurements. These are the same people who will make your pattern and sew your clothing. The workshop and store have the same opening hours.
We have systems in place to ensure that our clients and Zeds Threads are on the same page. Please read and sign the paperwork presented to you so it is very clear what you have ordered.
